I purchased this set explicitly due to its price - being the cheapest 19-volt cordless drill I could find (at the time) online. This drill replaced a 12v Skil that suddenly stopped working.

Pros
I just got a chance to really put some hours on this last weekend - having built two 4x8 foot shelves to make a huge rolling cart for my workshop. I drove approx 200 some odd 3" screws before the first battery gave up. Then proceeded to drive another 100 or so on the second battery (with plenty of juice left) to finish my project. The drill seemed to produce similar output until the very end of battery life - basically dying quickly is what you want vs. having it drag along with poor performance. There are plenty of clutch settings and the high low selection really comes in handy. The chuck adjusts like any other standard tools free one - nothing fancy.

Cons
One small downside as someone else mentioned is the forward and reverse switch is backwards from every other drill I've used. Not a big deal just a minor inconvenience. The bits they supplied are a bit cheap seeming to be made of pot metal. I broke one within the first few hours of using it - probably why they give you two identical ones. The light that illuminates with the trigger is just about useless - shinning light almost 8" away from the work area. One of my biggest complaints is the charger. It would REALLY be useful if the charger could do its job then go into a standby / trickle mode. Heck any LED indication other than red = on would be nice. It just charges at a constant rate that can ruin forgotten batteries.

Overall despite its few shortcomings this drill has great performance, adequate features, at a fair price.

This drill should've been labeled disposable. After less than a year, the batteries, both of them, barely carry a charge. While the drill was new, the thing was fantastic, and had enough included bits and pieces to make it worthwhile, and while you were running down one battery, the other was charging, making the effective life almost all day. But only a year later the thing is barely more useful than a screwdriver. Good tool for its price but got switch fried after a year of usage. Was using it one night, woke up in morning but it did not work right. It got jerky if turned on and stopped completely in few second. Both batteries are still in good shape though. It's a very affordable drill set.
Nice case, good accessories, and two batteries make it a good value.
The drill works as good as any I've owned.

But, the batteries are particularly bad.

The are NiCads and the won't hold a charge for 24-hours.
The are good for about 10-15 2" screws and then exhausted

It think that these are either the absolute worst batteries I've ever encountered, and I've been using them for years!

My suggestion is that you had better plan to have the batteries upgraded at a battery store, which will cost you about $45 per battery pack. I've done that for my DeWalt, which was not much better and now I can at least do more work. However, I suspect that this drill drains the battery, some how, because it really should hold a charge for a couple of week. Other NiCads do, so I'm very disappointed.


But, that's why this kit is cheap! It's great for kids and very, very light duty work.

This light serves well for light duty, periodic use. If candlepower is your main goal, look elsewhere for 10-million; my previous 3 million candlepower seemed to be as bright as this one. The on/off switch could be better positioned for operability with the same hand that is holding the light.

I have an 18V DeWalt driver/drill that is much better than this 19.5V Kawasaki cordless drill. The DeWalt is much more powerful and far better quality. However, a DeWalt 18V battery costs more than this entire kit which includes two batteries. I've had no problems with the Kawasaki other than the chuck does not grip drill bits securely. Also, the batteries are low capacity and don't last long.

The batteries and charger for these Kawasaki drills have been recalled because the batteries can blow up either in the charger or while you are using the drill. The reason is almost certainly due to the primitive charger which appears to apply a charge for a fixed amount of time every time the charge button is pressed.
